For some reason I am not able to import certain SketchUp files into Revit Architecture 2009. I get an error message saying that they cannot be imported. I am importing them into a new mass (using the Create Mass tool) from the design bar. Any ideas? They are all small files I have tried to import...4MB or less.

Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Have you tried importing them in to a Mass Family, instead of directly into the project?

Yes, I've only been trying to import them into a mass family. I enter into the Create Mass tool from the Massing Tab of the Design Bar, name my mass, then go to import the SketchUp file and am not able to.

I believe what Scott meant is to try import it into a Mass family outside your project. I think you are trying to import it into a mass created in place (you mentioned the Massing tab). Go to File > New > Family and use the Mass template to do it.

I have tried that as well. Opened the Mass.rft template file and tried to import the sketchup file directly into there. I still end up with the same results...I am not able to import it.

Hmmm...
I am following this post after having the same problem.

Did the developers add .SKP file compatability (???) just to tease us???????????

I have drawn a simple cube in Sketchup, saved it in an old sketchup version, and tried to import it...NOPE...Revit won're read it.

Let me phrase this another way: has anyone ever successfully imported a SketchUp file into Revit? If so...please kindly share your process...

Thanks in advance,

Check your face normals. I've had this hang me up in the past.

Are you importing with dwg's and not.skp's?

I have been trying SKP's since they are compatible (?) file type...
Being that I only have the free SketchUp version--and unable to export a DWG from SketchUp, I was going to try this workflow...

You may need to convert the SKPs to an older SU version. 5 or 6(????)

No. I've imported SU 6 & 7 versions into both Revit 2009 & 2010 with no problem.
