Filled Region - Send to back?

I have a filled region that sits on top of some plants. When I click the send to back button for the region, it doesn't do anything. Refer image.

See how the blue sand hatch is in front.
Is there anyway around this? I would like to show some hatching as grass.

Filled regions will obscure model elements ( until R6 probably ).
Send to back/front only works for 2D elements.

There is a workaround (http://www.zoogdesign.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=755&highlight=transparent) however.
