how do I get a larger render, like 36X24. I can move the boundary of the camera bur then I'd be getting a lot of blank area. Thanks.

click on the Crop region of the view, then look to the Options bar to adjust the size.

Do as Scott suggests, but in the dialog where you change the size, make sure to select the "Scale" option before changing any numbers.
