Starting a project with a client who is posting their revit arch model to an ftp site. We are looking to link their model into ours to generate grids, levels, etc. I can't seem to browse in the link window to the model on the ftp site. If we save their model to our network and then link that copy into our model will that work? Meaning when they post an updated arch model a week or a month from now to the ftp will we be able to just overwrite their central file on our network and have the link update our model?
thanks

First off, they are your grids, not the archies. They are your columns, and they go in first. You should use the copy/monitor tool for those since your plans may not layout exactly as the archies do. As for the levels, I'd do the same. You care about the top of steel or top of slab, they may be creating a ton of additional levels for top of coping or bottom of sill.
If you want to pull the model from an FTP site, I think you can do it, but that has to be the location of their central file (I believe). You will need to add the ftp site as a new network in order for you to see it.
I'm not sure how well Revit does with coping over a central file. I don't think it likes it very much.
Anyway just my 2 cents.

I would download their file from the ftp site to your network. Open the file and disregard the warning that the central file is moved or inacessible etc. Use 'save as' and select the option to make this a central file on your network. I usually add my own initials or your employer's as a suffix to the new file name. Now you can do whatever you want with it because it's your own copy. When you get an update, follow the same procedure, same place, same name, etc.
The only drawback that I know of would be using storage space on your network.
