They are usefull when working in plan, but line weights in 3D views are not at all that desireable

If you want to turn of line weights, only when working, just toggle "thin line" (shortcut "TL")

If you dont want them to print in 3D views, go to the Manage Ribbon | Settings | Line Weights | Perspective Line Weight Tab, and make them all the same pen width. (Im ASSuming youre talking about plotting Perspectives../ If its just looking on the screen, then as mentioned, turn on Thin Lines mode...)

Are you talking about perspective 3D views? If so, I'm guessing the line weights look way too thick when you create and open the view. This is because of the size of the view being only 6" wide. If you change it to 12" or 18" or even 24" wide, and pick the option to maintain the scale (lock proportions), then the lines will appear much thinner.

Keep in mind that this affects how large a rendering will be if you create one from that view.

I was, as mentioned, talking about PERMANENT thin lines mode for 3D (perspective and axonometric) views (just like the Thin Lines button produces, but a more permanent solution)

It seems there is no way to activate this mode separately in 3D views and keep the plans WITH line widths.

Oh yes there is...two ways as stated above
Have a look at view templates for your axonometrics: you will have to apply it to your 3d views , and for your perspectives the manage line weights as above is exactly what you are looking for: To restate:
