We're using AutoCAD 2007 SP2 (on Vista 64 and XP 32) and I seem to have come up with a Publish issue that I cannot resolve. This issue exists with both operating systems.

If I perform a single sheet plot to PDF (using NovaPDF) while importing a specific page setup from our standard Page Setup file (network location) I have no problems. The PDF file is generated and all is well (attached image named "Plot Details Log.jpg").

However, if I attempt to perform a Publish from the exact same computer, with the exact same drawing file and the exact same imported Page Setup I get a failure message (attached image named "Publish Details Log - Failed.jpg").

The only thing that I have noticed is that the "Publish Details" log does not report the "Device name" or the "Paper size" when publishing and the "Plot Details" log does not report "Page setup". All of our other Page Setups work as expected when publishing.

It doesn't matter if I send 1 file or 100 with the Publish command - the results are the same. I am Publishing out of an "empty" DWG file (not a file in the Publish set).

I know that the Plot and Publish Details dialog is the same for plot and for publish. I am referring to as different items (Plot v. Publish) just to make this easier to follow.

I have checked the AUGI and AutoDesk forums as well as a couple of different Google searches with no answers. It looks like this issue has existed in some form or another for a couple of years (problems publishing to PDF) and I was not able to find a real answer in any of the posts (just speculation).

I have attached images of the Plot Dialog (Plot Dialog.jpg) and the Publish Dialog (Publish Dialog.jpg) as well just for reference.

As a workaround we are plotting to DWF then using Design Review to Batch Plot the DWF's to PDF. Not a very efficient method in my opinion.

Any insight or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any comments.

I am getting this exact same issue when using the Publish command. The only difference I have is that I am trying to print to a PostScript plotter to PLT files and not PDF (however, I assume they are similar in the background). I can get the plot to work using the Plot command in individual drawings, but I cannot get it to work using the Publish command.

I have found that setting PUBLISHCOLLATE to 0 does not fix the errors either. This only allows each sheet to error out individually.

Is there any help out there?

Turn off background publish. Most of these virtual printers ask for a file name, if you plot / publish in background this dialog does not display & the plot times out since it's waiting for user input.

You can find both plot / publish in background settings under: Tools --> Options --> Plot & Publish tab.

I should have mentioned in my previous post that turning off background publish does not work for me either. It still errors out and will not complete the publish.
