is it possibe to make a void in a family that after it is loaded into the
project will do it bollean effect on a wall or extruded object

my case in point here is I am building a very custom shower but the soap inset has to be cut into the wall.. if I do it in project it is fine but can't seem to make this work if it loaded from a family

also, another use would be a pier made in the family editor that would cut holes in the extruded solid in project representing the ground.
still just have Revit 2009

Ray,

If you want your family to cut a wall, you have to model it as a wall based family and make sure the void cuts the wall in the family itself. You can't have a void from one family being inserted into the project and cut portions of another family.

On your second example, if you model the ground as a floor and model your family as a floor based element AND make sure that a void cuts the floor in the family, then it will cut the floor that's hosting your family in the project.
