Hello gang!! So i've been playing around with the push/pull tool and it appears that when pushing a solid's face into itself that edges & a face gets created starting at the point of the orginal face's location and these stay connected to the adjusted face. I've attached an image that should explain it more clearly. Note that the face of the solid 'pushed' was touching another solid prior to making the modifaction....perhaps this is kind of like the 'glue-to' action found in SketchUp?? Does anyone know if this is what should be expected? Seems like using the tool in this fashion will quickly create a messy model. Thanks!!
ps. PRESS pull...so used to SketchUP. lol

Yes that is the way PUSH/PULL is supposed to work. It will move the face at its outer edges back and forth. Since you are using 2010, use the new gizmos to get a better edit of the faces. You may want to tessellate your object to give you more control.

Thanks for the reply. Strange behavior as i'm not sure what the advantages are to pushing a face into a solid and thus creating more edges which are not desired. But hey i guess its progress for working with solid modifaction with out using booleans, though leaving the extra cleanup work as a trail doesn't make it sort of useless for walls and slabs; makes sense for mesh faces and product design, though.

I guess the idea behind the PUSH/PULL command was to be able to quickly put a "hole" in an object, or to create some sort of protrusion, just as fast. I believe the command was introduced in AutoCAD 2007 when Autodesk made 3D much easier in AutoCAD.
Since you are using AutoCAD 2010, you may want to try the 3D Gizmos and the new mesh modeling tools. I wrote about them in the May and June issues of AUGI Hotnews, in the Tipniques Column.

If you want to move the face (or edge, or vertex) of an object more smoothly than the push/pull command does, move your mouse over the face of then object you want to change, press the control key to select the face(or edge, etc.) and move your mouse. It produces a mesh push/pull and doesn't crease the edges, unless you use the crease command.
