Line Based Families and Scheduled Levels

I have a line based family that is used as an easy way for users to place objects in an array. In this case, it's for placing shelving units in a row. What we noticed is that the parent family knows what their host is in Element/Instance Properties. However, the child family doesn't know its host. Additionally, neither family is scheduling the level they are living on.

Is this a known issue? Anyone come across this? Anyone have any advice on how to fix this?
