Is it possible to apply a material to a wall/floor for a specific room and not the entire floor or wall? This will make scheduling & rendering much easier.

You can use the Split Face and Paint tools to apply materials to parts of surfaces. Beware that schedules do not pick this up and continue to only count the '3d' material.
