Crown not showing in underlay

I have created an in place family crown with surround on a door and wants to show it in a call out (floor plan call out) detail view and use a line tool to indicate its location in hidden line. The crown will not show in underlay. Please help.

You can try changing your view range to show the crown. Then you use the Linework tool to make it show as hidden lines. After that, just change your view range back to the way it was before and you will still see your overhead crown showing as hidden lines.

I undid the underlay back to none and change the view range and move the cut plane above the crown and use line tool to create hidden lines, but when I switched the cut plane back to 6' AFF, the hidden lines disappeared.

Are you sure you selected the Linework tool? Note that this is different than just drawing lines. Linework should work for what you want.
