Summary: The ability to shift part of a linetype pattern to make it more visibly pleasing.

Description: To be able to shift a linetype, that is, to move the pattern of a linetype to a more visibly pleasing location. For example: a gasline could look like this: ---GAS--------GAS--- instead of this: --------GAS--

How Used: This would be beneficial because we could shift the pattern of a linetype without having to create a custom linetype (time consuming)everytime a linetype looks unbalanced or truncated. Additionally many agengies provide their own linetypes that their clients are not allowed to deviate from so we have no choice but to leave them unbalanced looking or to fake the linetype in by drawing pattern manually (time consuming). In some cases we try to scale linetypes which is also not always visibly appealing and can cause some non-uniformity between the linetypes. It seems some agencies are switching to using Microstation or other CAD software because of little nuisance items such as this which is something I that is definitely undesireable. Being able to shift linetypes will help us to have better looking drawings and allow us to spend less time on them. Thank you

Yea, the whole linetype mechanism needs a overhaul. It's basically unchanged since complex linetypes were introduced in 1994 (R13)

not sure when introduced, but turn your line into a polyline and then edit the polyline and reverse it.

It's been on wish lists here and elsewhere many times since it was introduced. My wish from 2011: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?133959-Font-referencing-Background-Masking-in-Complex-Linetypes

Sometimes feel like posting wish or adding comment fall on def ears with autodesk, makes me feel bit hopeful. Sometimes someone has a solution you didn't know about though which makes it worthwhile. Not really impressed with one autocad overall. From what I saw were new features. Guess Autodesk idea push Revit/Inventor but even there they need to improve. Sorry for my rant

I submitted one here in 2009 for Strike-through formatting in MText objects on 7/14/2009: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?119676-Strike-through-formatting-in-MText-objects
It was added into AutoCAD and is on page 6 of 23 in the Wish List Hall of Fame. Quite a few of them have been granted over the years and they may eventually get to this one if it scores in the top 30 a couple times.

I suspect that most of the "augi wishes fulfilled" are more a result of a coincidence rather than a result of someone at Autodesk gathering the idea from Augi, and then going and implementing it.

IOW - the idea is probably in the works at Autodesk long before someone decides to post it here. The lead time on new features is ±dozens of months and multiple releases.
