View Full Version : Revit Titleblock layouts?

I'm in the process of making a fresh set of Titleblocks but there seems to be divided opinion on format.

I'm only using Revit parameters so that information is fully linked/automated and I'm leaving good space tolerance for data. Some traditional conventions make sense and some seem out of date for the purposes of BIM (I'm talking to guys who prefer the days of drawing boards).

Anyway, there's two schools of thought for the overall layout.
1) Set the information out for reading when the drawing is folded.
2) Set the information out for maximising paperspace/layout when the drawing is flat.

I favour the latter because it creates extra width for drawings and suits the orientation of text without wasting too much space. But this means the titleblock isn't fully visible when folded. I have put the most relevant info to the right so it's visible when folded. Does it matter?

Apologies if i'm posting in the wrong place as it's only vaguely Revit but I want opinions that matter and you guys are top of my list!

Well, my answer may not be totally relevant to your situation because I am only a small operator and I use mostly A3 sheets.

However, even at that I have 3 different regular layouts (and 2 or 3 one-off layouts that I used at one time or another) used depending on the needs of a particular project.

These are: Landscape Bottom, Landscape Side and Portrait Bottom.

For each page I use what suits this page the best, so it may happen that for one project I can use all three of them. Say, pages 1 & 2 may be Landscape Bottom, page 3 may be Portrait Bottom and all the rest may be Landscape Side - only because that was the best layout for each page in question...

I am a very strong oponent of pre-set rigid rules. Life and life situations are hardly fitting in pre-set solid rules. Besides, it's horribly boring then...

Ah, it's good to be your own boss... ;)

I suppose that is the best answer - do all options! Everyone is arguing in our office about which is best and the answer should be that each should be used when it's merits suit.

We work in A3 mostly because the contractors prefer that sheet size on site. I will adopt all 3 variations.

Thanks
