I started a job with annotative objects. It was a good project to get familiar with annotative scaling. The files and references are small and simple. I have indexctl set to 3, xloadctl set to 2, fieldeval set to 28, references are overlaid not attached. The drawing sheets are painfully slow and they seem to crash almost as much as Civil 3D does. It is just basic autocad entities.

Should annotative scaling really bog down AutoCAD this much? Does anyone have any tips/sysvars i can set?

Along with the terrible performance, the requirement for constant annoresets, attsyncs and adding scales to objects (I have annoautoscale set to 4 but its not working) is making this simple task very unproductive.

My specs are ACAD2008, 4GB RAM, 2.3GHz Intel Centrino, NVIDIA 1GB card, 7200RPM hard drive.

I tried using annotative text and blocks in the base drawings for 16 lot subdivision. I used Civil 3D 2009. Everything worked fine except when I tried to change the annoscale AutoCAD would stop responding. I waited as long as 15 minutes. If I wanted to change the annotation scale I had to close the drawing, open it and immediately change the scale. it would still take several minutes (3 to 4) but it did work. i eventually changed all the text in the base drawings to non-annotative because I like to change the scale frequently when working with Civil 3D points.

Have you tried turning SaveFidelity off?
