I put in a subscription request for this but they have not found a solution yet. When exporting piping from AutoCAD MEP 2008-2010 to a DWF the pipe comes into QTO in inches but QTO says it is in feet. I tried changing the property data sets inside MEP to extract the data as feet but no dice. I even tried a formula property data set dividing the cut length by 12 to give me decimal feet, strike 2.

Hi there,

I did some testing and found one way around this issue. Here's what I did

- delete the old DWF and related items
- File>Settings>Units change the Length to "inches"
- re-import the DWF and do your takeoff again

This will now display the inches values.
Next I modified the takeoff item so that the Quantity 1 item on the Cost tab displays feet. This value can be displayed in the workbook. Doesn't seem optimal to me but did give me data in feet. Let me know if this helps - I'm wondering if there's a better way.

I apprecite your suggestion, however I could not seem to make it work with pipe. Are you using plumbing lines?

I used "AECB_SCHEMATIC_PIPE" objects in the original example and then I just tested also with "AECB_PIPE" objects and found the process worked the same for both - just need to set the project Units to "Inches" and use the Quantity values in "feet".

Please note that if you've done the takeoff in "feet" you'll need to discard those takeoff objects, change the project units and then perform the takeoff again. Changing the project units mid-stream doesn't affect items that have already been processed.
