Revit does not record the area of a shaft opening, at least not in the instance properties, so no I don't think you can tag or schedule that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Assuming it's a simple rectangle you could make a family with the same graphic and tag this instead. Make it 3D and you could have it span multiple floors for coordination and tagging.
This was actually one of the first families I ever created before I realized that I could add the same graphic "X" using the built-in shaft tool.

Perhaps a room or space? Then create a new space tag. I'm not sure how shafts work in Revit (MEP guy) but that is what first came to mind when seeing this post.

If you're going to export to Ecotect or similar you may need to classify them as rooms regardless.
