how would one achieve this buttressed wall using wall sweep.

Frankly, I think I wouldn't do it using sweeps but if you insist, I would simply create a profile equal to the outline of this buttress in section and apply it to the walls.

You would have to split the external wall into 5 pieces (assuming that the whole front wall is made as one piece to start with). Two of these pieces would be the "backing" for the sweeps, so their length would be the actual buttresses width.

I hope it makes some sense...

That right there is a job for an architectural column family.

I don't think you have to split the wall for this to work. If you place one sweep and pull it in to the width of the first butress you can then place a second sweep and adjust it as well. If, when you place the second sweep, you overlap the first you wil get an error message that you can say okay to rather than cancel. Once they no longer overlap everything should be okay.

But Patrick is right... a column family would be a much better way to go.

That's what I said too - that I wouldn't use sweeps either...
