View Full Version : Domestic Tiled or Slate Roof Verge Detailing

Can anyone please help a newbie with creating this standard roof detail in Revit (See attached sketch).
The items as as follows;-
1. I want the roof tiles to project beyond the face of the fascia to the verge.
2. I need to create a boot end to the verge where it meets the eaves line.
The sketch took a couple of minutes with SketchUP, & would be even quicker with 2D AutoCAD, but I've wasted an afternoon with Revit!
Any help anyone can provide would be gratefully received.

not sure that's exactly what you need, but there are some cool techniques
for tile roofs.

This can't be the "proper" method, but I managed to get the roof & verge fascia to look OK using the following method (after working through the messages in the above link):-
1. Formed a roof to follow the basic structure - ie the timber rafters & sarking. The roof had the correct overhang to the eaves, but was cut short to the face of the gable wall.
2. Copied & pasted back in the roof in a section view, & moved it to sit on top of the original roof. I then changed the new roof construction to be the tile layer. In a plan view I edited the overhangs to the eaves (to project into the gutter & the verge by 250mm from the face of the wall.
3. Applied a fascia & soffit to the timber roof structure, up to the outside faces of the gable walls.
4. Set the drawing plane to the end of the tiled roof in line with the gable. I then created an in-place roof component using an extruded solid in the same material 200mm deep, set 50mm back from the plane.
5. Tried to mirror the gable component, but eventually had to copy, paste, rotate & place it to the other end of the roof.
6. Joined the fascias to hide the seams.
7. Had a cuppie while viewing my creation in 3D, but wondering whether why life & a building drawing package can be so difficult!
If anyone has a better method, I'd be very grateful to hear about it.
