It looks like contour labels like to go from low to high or vs versus. The problem is when you to the top of the building going away to the north they read upside down.
I cannot find any settings (yet) that will keep it right reading. Does this exist?

I haven't looked at 2009 or 2010 on this yet but no fix in 2008 and earlier.

Apparently, this is NOT a bug...
However annoying it is and however unprofessional it looks on a page, apparently there is a surveying convention to show the levels oriented "up the hill".
I wish it was left to the user to decide which way they wanted but as far as 2009, it's still the only option... :(
