I have a schedule that I need to have calculate the total length of an element, but also show what the typical length is...
I have a part that has a length (5'). When I set up the schedule to show the length of the component it's fine. Now, I have 114 of those components, all at the same length. I need to be able to show the total combined length (570'), but also show that each component is only 5' long.
It seems that I can only show one of the other. I can calculate the total length and show that, or show the individual length. If I try to create a calculated value parameter for the schedule, it won't let me use the count to multiply by the length.
Am I missing something?

Thank.

Can you upload the componet family?

Would the typical length be an average? Take the total length of all the elements then divide by the number of instances. I would label your family component with 5' as the type. As long as you don't have the length as an instance parameter you should be fine doing it this way.

That's the issue though, unless you manually enter in the number of instances, you can't divide or multiply by the "Count".
Rereading the original post...I have a component with a length, but a number of them. I need to show what that length is, but also the total. (not the typical length as I originally said). So basically the schedule will either show the length of the component, or the the total length, but I can't show both.

Here's one of the families...

I think that the first example is what you are looking for. If so set up the "Sorting/Grouping" Tab of the Schedule Properties to look like the second image.

I did notice that you had the Family Category set to Generic Model, which is a category that doesn't schedule. That's why the example schedule I posted is a structural column schedule.

Some explanation about the Sorting/Grouping settings:

Sort by "Extrusion Length" sorts the schedule by all UNIQUE instances of the parameter Extrusion Length.

"Itemize all instances" prevents the schedule from totalling the instances with the same value.
Note: If you uncheck that box it will total all instances of the SAME value, In this project the 14' insatnces would add to equal 28'

The Grand Totals Check box gives us the Total at the bottom of the schedule.

I also have a similar issue where I am trying to create a schedule that gives the calculated total (in my case it is total area, not length) as well as an average based on the overall count. The solution above would be tricky for me, as I have a lot of instances and I don't want to list their areas individually and then give the total-- what I want to do is divide the total area by the "count" (I am not itemizing each instance) to get the average for each type. But as it has been mentioned, "Count" cannot be used in a calculated value field.

In other threads in this forum I've noted that for a family one can add a type parameter to the family called "__ Count", set the default value to one, and then add that parameter to the schedule. By setting the schedule to calculate totals for the parameter, that field can be used instead of the "count" field and you can get a true calculated value average. This work-around almost works in my case for getting an average room size (added a instance room count parameter), but the calculated value only works in the schedule where all instances of the room have the same area. Bummer. If anyone finds a work-around, please let me know.
