Door Function type property

I just noticed my doors have a Function type property, and the choices are Interior or Exterior. Is this one of those hard-coded door-specific properties? What is the purpose of this? Anything other than just something to show in a schedule?

I'm not sure how/why Revit programmers have set it up that way--but a few thoughts:

-Exterior doors need special considerations for thermal, waterproofing, hardware and infiltration barriers that interior doors typically do not have.

- It could be that Revit MEP, and/or Green Building Studio, Ecotect, or other 3rd party
apps could take advantage of the Exterior or Interior nomenclature/data from the family
metadata? ( i.e. BIM interaction w/ other software for downstream use. )

- In and IPD project, the 3D model may be used by the Contractor/door supplier
for use in developing bids, shop drawings, hardware schedules, etc--where that type of
information would be available and helpful.
