Because I do industrial and commercial buildings, each building tends to have different sized shopfront windows (floor to ceiling windows with glass doors).
When I was using Architectural Desktop, it was great being able to set rules for a window component, so when I stretch the window to a larger size new mullions were added or subtracted depending on the width. :D

Is it possible to do something similar in Revit? I don't want to have to design different size window components for every job I do.

Or maybe, is there a way to use curtain walls so that they can be created and then told to cut the opening in a wall. I do not want to have to cut the hole independently, and then move the curtain wall into this hole. That's just bad object-based drafting.

At present, you cannot make a family in revit using logical operators, which is what you would need to control the placement of mullions based on the length of the curtain wall. ( But who knows whats coming in R6 )

Nevertheless, if you have a look at curtain walls, they are very easy to use and it shouldn't be hard to achieve what you want. You can quickly add, delete or re-space mullions, change mullion types, add doors or other panel types etc. Its no more difficult than creating a wall in the first place. Keep in mind, that it acts like a wall though, not like a window. ( ie it does not cut an opening in a wall )

Another possiblity would be to make a couple of window families with fixed glass and mullion spacing which could be adjusted within the window length. ( ie type 1 to suit an opning 2.0 to 3.6 m wide, with 2 equally spaced internal vertical mullions; type 2 to suit an opning 3.7 to 4.8 m wide, with 3 equally spaced internal vertical mullions ) I think you could quickly cover the options you're likely to meet in most commercial work.( ? )

Another thought. If you go with a window family, and set the length to be an instance parameter, and the mullions to divide the panels equally, or whatever, you can tab to the edge of the window and drag it to the new length. Very similar to stretching in ADT (?)

You can now!

I certainly can. I scored twice with that one.
