I created reference detail in the plan, but the SIM label did not be shown on the callout circle.
who knows how to turn it on?

Did you:

1. Select "reference other view" when placing the Callout?

2. Do you have a reference bubble head loaded into the project that has the SIM label?

cheers......

I have a follow-up: I understand why the "SIM" shows up, but its usage is not typical to standard drafting practice. Other than deleting the label from the callout head annotation family, is there any way to remove or otherwise not show the "SIM" label when the callout is not really similar?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The SIM actually is stored in the view, not in the "symbol". IF the SIM shows up, then you can edit that type of view to have it say nothing, or something else. However, each view can only ever store one value for this text. Changing to be blank, will change it everywhere to be blank, thoughout that project.

Correct, and unfortunately you cannot have one callout referencing another view with a SIM label, and then a 3rd callout referencing the same view with an OPP label. The original view contains the label that will be used by all views or callouts that reference that view using Reference Other View.

This has been a problem since around 7 or 7.1 I believe (before that, we could do such things with no problems).

What we really need is a callout or section head with an instance-based label that can be changed to whatever we want, or nothing at all.

We typically just make them blank and add a piece of text with the SIM. or OPP. note. Not very revit I know, but this also solves the problem of the sim note being on top of other annotation in crowded views becaue you can put it wherever you want.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I've just had to resign myself to having "SIM" read on callouts that aren't "similar" in the drafting sense. Of course, the whole point would be moot if I could just have the callout be tagged once in the drawings, but that's a battle I'll have to fight with my boss...
