View Full Version : Reference lines - copy and rotate

when I draw a closed shape with reference lines and then copy it (basically offsetting in plan) the closed shaped highlights and selects as a group. however, I need to rotate that shape, and once I do the shape no longer stays grouped together.

I have to select "disjoin" in order to accomplish the rotate (again in plan view), and I wonder if this disjoin is causing the form to ungroup. Any thoughts?

Matthew,
I can't seem to duplicate that behavior. Are you in the family editor, creating a mass, in-place family...?

Dimitri,

I am working in a mass family template, using the new "CDE". For some reason rotating disjoins at least one trimmed connection (at the far end of the rotation point). It is rather frustrating, and what I thought would be a time saver has been more like wrestling an alligator.

Other related issues in this sprawling mass family:
several masses, or volumes which are rotated at arbitrary angles, and reference planes and lines that are supposedly perpendicular to various forms are not normal to section views. When I draw a section view, and try to pull a dimension, or as my post indicated, try to mirror things I am not able to. However, in a plan view, the dimensions will string. So, I end up having to draw different ref planes in the sections to help me construct things. This problem is also present in the project environment.

(I am going to post this problem separately, but I thought it might be useful info)....thanks.
