Hey Everyone,

My name is Andrew and I am new to Revit Architecture. I guess this is the latest program that mostly every company is raving over. I been an AutoCAD user for about 5 years now and I definitely see some similarities and major advantages that Revit contains. Anyways I was just wondering, "What are some key things to remember while using Revit in order to maximize efficiency?"

Drew,

As I tell my college students, the best way to learn Revit quickly is:

1. Forget everything you know about AutoCAD and how AutoCAD works.
2. Learn the basics of Revit, then jump right into the Family Editor and learn how families operate and are made CORRECTLY! Don't hide your eyes, plagiarize. However, learn from the best. Deconstruct families made by GOOD family creators.
3. Never try to fake-out Revit. Build your model correctly or it isn't worth building at all.
And finally,
4. There's a reason that the "I" in BIM comes before the "M". The information you put in a model is most often more important than the modeling. The only thing worse than putting NO information in your model is putting in WRONG information. The first one can lose you a job, but the second one can land you in court - and that's worse.

For my students, I grade them just as heavily on their parameters as I do on their model. I've had a student fail a project with a great looking model because this parameters didn't hold any information that was usable.
