How do I change to setting that controls the leader line that pops up when you drag text from a dimension. Right now it is a arc comming off the tag line for the dimensions but I just want a straight line comming off the side.

Hey Jim,
Are you using RS2010? If you are, the following should help:
Once you select the "TEXT" tool, you should notice that your ribbon will change to show "LEADER" options (no leader, one segment, two segments, and curved). My guess is you will either want one or two segments.
Proceed to click where you want your ARROW to be located. Click once (or twice - depending on the number of segments) and then you are prompted for the text.
Hope this helps.

The only option you have is to use the arc or to tun off the leader all together. I have seen people try to fake in a line by dragging the text to the side to where the arc is so flat it looks like a line. After a while we just got used to using the arc rather than trying to force it to look different.

Yeah I have that figured out just fine but what I'm trying to do is move the dimension from it's original spot out to the side. See the attached file for a better idea of what I need to do. I'm playing with some of our typicals and copy them in revit.

I kind of figured that was going to be the answer. It seems like revit it great for the actual 3d thing but man it leaves alot to be desired when it comes to the nuts and bolts of a few things.

Revit is great and I would never go back to 2D drafting, but you're right there is still alot to be desired. Items such as text still need alot of improvement. But, each year gets a little better and I'm sure eventually we'll have much of the same features as we had in autocad. When we first started using revit we couldn't even edit dimensions and now we can.
