We're working on a project where the Rooms were laid out in Schematics.
Now that we're progressing through DDs, we needed to add a Level. Not another floor, just a Backstage area 3 feet higher. We added a Level without a Floor Plan, and now we need to change many of the Rooms that were previously on FIRST LEVEL to BACKSTGE LEVEL.
You can't use Element Properties to change a Room's Level. No, problem, I think. Just Cut the Rooms and use Paste Aligned..Select Level to put them where they belong.

Almost, but one big gotcha. When you Paste Aligned, Revit assigns a new Room Number. It maintains all of the other parameters, but doesn't Paste the actual Room that was Cut. It Pastes a new instance (and thus new Number) of a Room that just looks the same. The Original Room number is still in the Unplaced list.

Bug? Feature? Anyone got any ideas how to change the Room's Levels without duplicating them?

If you delete a room, then put it back in place with the room tool it will maintain all of the parameters, including the room number. I realize that's not ideal if you have a bunch of rooms, but that way you won't lose any information.

I have a similar problem. I have tried the cut and paste aligned select by level ( room tag included) as well as the delete and add using the room tool as you suggested. In the case of paste aligned the room name stayed but the number changed. With the latter method the room tag went back to the generic" room" and a new number.

Any other ideas

When you're placing the room back using the room tool, you'll see a pulldown in the Options Bar for "Room:". By default, New is selected, but if you click in the pulldown you can select an existing room.

Yea, thats the way to do it, delete it out and re-use the existing "room".

Yes, this sucks. Same goes for room separation lines.

This should be on the wishlist.

...In the case of paste aligned the room name stayed but the number changed...This happens because the cut operation does not delete the room. The paste operation is placing a copy (with all the same data) of the cut room and gives it a new number, because it is a copy, not the original. When they restored the persistence of the room element this situation was introduced. When they changed it initially the cut and paste operations worked.

Try this. Cut the room element objects whose level association you want to change to the clipboard. Go to the room schedule and delete the rooms that are not placed. Go to the view associated to the level you want the room objects associated with and paste Aligned to Current View. This will retain both the room name and number.

but you still lose the tag, and if you have multiple drawings, you need to retag all the drawings, which sucks

such a simple thing made so difficult. so frustrating

If you group the rooms... select the rooms and tags... cut from level 1 and paste into level 2 it looks like the room keeps its number. You may have to resolve some room bounding issues, but that's to be expected.
