We have a large renovation project that needs to be broken into 6 packages issued as separate sets. The work will be independent of each other meaning the order doesn't matter for the most part. The phasing will be decided by the contractor at some later date.

Our plan was to do all the existing building (1,000,000+ SF) in an Existing Arch and Existing Struct model. Then each package of new work would be a separate RVT file. Some elements will have to be demolished in the existing files. We plan to make a phase in the existing file for each package which will be mapped when linked in to the package file.

We want each package to show the existing building as it is now without the influence of the other packages of work. I had hoped phase mapping would work for this but older phases can't be mapped ahead of new ones.

Do we:

1. Maintain 6 separate existing models that then need to be reconciled to make the as built BIM model at the completion of all phases?

2. Have a single Existing file that before issuing each package we go in and create a phase right after existing and move all the work for that package to that phase? That way we could map all the other phases to future phases and they wouldn't show up.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

3. Use worksets or a shared parameters or some combination with Visibility Graphic Filters to override lines and not use phases at all or as much?

4. Use Design Options in the existing files for the work to be demoed.

This sounds promising as long as it doesn't make the file too big.
