Trying to Nest Rebar in a Structural Column Family

I am a newbi, so be gentle...

Using Revit 2010, is it possible to nest rebar within a Structural Column Family. Whenever I attempt to load a rebar shape component I get an error messge (not of the right category or some such).

I know that normally rebar gets hosted to a column element in the main model, but because of the way we schedule our reinforced columns, column type A1 will always be 600x600 with 12N36 bars. Thus is would be nice to have rebar within the family definition and not hosted.

Does this make sense?

I believe that if you can't get it to work as a family you could save it in it's own project as a model group.

Grouping is the best option so far.
You can save it externally and recall whenever you like.
