View Full Version : umm, why aren't my level lines showing in section?

I have it on course, check view visibility, annotation category, building levels are checked on. Might this have something to do with the 2d/3d toggle thing because I havn't had much time to catch up on what that actually does.
TIA....

Are worksets enabled? If so check the workset visibilities...

It is possible that the datum had the 3D control active ( open blue circle ) and you dragged its extents to suit a detail view , thereby affecting all other views.
When you resize model (3D) datum extents, you can control in which view they are visible. If the datum planes do not intersect the view plane, they are not visible in the view. So if the section cut is below a level, for instance, that level will not show in section. It can get a bit complicated too, because you can have a datum appearing to intersect a view plane, when in fact, its 2D line intersects but not its model ( 3D ) extent. Confused ? Its best to refer to the diagrams in Help, to understand this.
If thats the case, check the last views you modified, locate the level datum, change the extents to suit the sections , elevations as 3D, then go back to the detail view and switch the control to 2D ( filled circle ) and adjust the levels to suit that view, being view specific only.
Some other possibilities -
Scope Box: Datum set to another scope box.
Crop Region: Does not intersect datum.
Hide Annotation in View: set for each level. ( unlikely ! )

AHA! Yes, that was it. I only posted because this is a new feature that I never have encounterd before v7.
Thanks...

Is there a way to turn the 3d part of the datum extents off completly, in revit 6.1 this was never a problem. I do not understand why now we have to "Search" for the level indicators, on some drawings i am unable to find them at all......

Turning the 3D levels off turns them into 2d <view specific> levels.
You could set up your standard project template to just have 2D levels if you wished.

I've found it only takes a short time to setup the 3d extents of levels. Simply a matter of cutting two sections perpendicular to each other through the entire project, dragging the ends to the furtherest extension beyond the site boundaries in both directions. Then you shouldn't have any trouble finding levels in any newly cut sections/elevations....
If you then need different extents for a view specifically shift it to 2D. I guess its a matter of changing the way of thinking and picture the levels as a large rectangular flat plane that will only show the particular level if the plane is cut...
