View Full Version : Correct modelling of RC slabs & beams - RSA & Revit

I would like the beams to be offset from the centroid of the slab with rigid links.
Not the standard way with the centroid of the slab and beam coinciding on the same plane.
What are the correct settings in Revit?
How do you ensure connection between the beam centroid line and the slab? Is there a function in RSA to model this automatically?

In RST define offsets on beam ends. See pic01.png
Select “Use drawing model offsets as analytical” during export to RSA. See pic02.png
On pic03.png you can see what you get in RSA.

Thanks Tomasz,
On a similar note... When modelling a downstand edge beam on a slab.
Looking at the floor slab definition in plan, which is correct?
1. Taking the slab boundary to the centreline of the beam definition, or
2. To the outside of the slab
When using Option 1 I've found that selecting only the slab is quite difficult and that the joined geometry causes the normal rectangular beam to be cut to form an inverted L-beam (notch cut into the top) when exporting to RSA - I suspect the latter is an issue with the geometries not joining properly.
Saying that, the "Join Geometry" function can be fickle some times...
Option 2 causes an undesired mesh pattern on the edge and mesh refinement is required on the edge of the slab

Hello,
I have tried what you showed us in this post and works great. Another problem is with the walls just like in my screen capture. If you can give any advise on how to make the wall(phisical model) stop at the face of the column and the analitycal axis to go all the way to the axis of the column i would appreciate that.
Thank you.
