Chamfer structural component

How does one chamfer or cut a profile off the end of a column or beam component, so that it is anything but square?

Use an in-place void, if you want it modelled in 3D.

I can't select my beam using Edit Cut Profile.
Could you expand on using an in-place void. I can't create a family that has just a void in it.

I am using a loaded beam family, not creating an in-place structural family.

My bad - it seems that an in-place void will not cut a structural beam.

Create a custom beam. Reference lines make this very straightforward.

i've tried this but cannot get the void to work parametrically. Has anyone else attempted/succeeded at this?
