Hi,
I didn't give much thought until recently. I have noticed that Revit does not have "Autosave" but reminders where you have to save manually....or am I misinterpreting it?
This morning a user lost all his mornings worth work in a entire PC crash (Not Revit Crash)
And lost all his work...there was a backup, but it was from Friday....

Please Help!

Revit doesnt Autosave. When you think about Central and Local files, its pretty much a great thing that it doesnt. If someone were in a file planning on closing without save and relinquishing, and it autosaved, that could be a mess.

That said, i tell users they should be saving every half an hour at the LONGEST, without exception. Whether its a one person project or a ten person project, what good excuse is there to not hit save? Everytime i finish a decent part of a task, i click it while im looking at drawings, or whatever.

Tell your users punishment will be swift if they dont save every twenty minutes, lol.

LOL!!! Thanks....
Yeah some senior staff actually hit cancel when the message pops up....They always give me a hard time on such stuff.....why revit this, why revit that.....

There is another problem with autosave. Once saved and published, other users are now able to work on what has been saved. This is not always wanted. Sometimes I have something I am just trying out and I may never want to "publish" it. By not saving locally or to central, I can always undo.

But, as already noted, if you have done something valuable, you are a fool if you don't say yes when reminded to save and you are the responsible party - not REVIT.

Yeah I agree, I am just getting sick of these guys mentality of Revit....they don't follow Revit rules, and when something doesn't behave the way they want, they blame Revit.
Sometimes I feel they should just simply move back to freakin' Datacad.
Because thats how far their brain can go......

Having a feature that would allow a team to incrementally save their changes very regularly might be nice if it could be turned on and off. That way it might save quickly as you work to finish up a set of documents and you would not have to que yourselves to save and end up taking a coffee break.

It seems like that would be a great use of a dual core machine using an thread that would not affect your work. It seems like ArchiCAD 13 is kind of like that?

Can't quite understand the logic of what is being said in this posting as Autosave (like in Autocad) DOES NOT NEED to write over the original but can simply keep a copy (with a misc name) in a set directory.. this can then be renamed (look for it by date in the directory) IF it is needed. This way no one is using the file being worked on till it is properly saved by the user with an actual save command...Now this would be useful...and anyone who says autosaving is not needed is dreaming in my experience... just my opinion!

whats wrong with journal files?

These are my autosave a quick flick through to see the issues if there was a crash or if someone forgot to save clean up the end of the file.
then run it as it really is an autosave.

There is a plugin from Archigrafix called iSync that autosaves Revit projects (including synchronization). It also does auto-relinquish, auto-reload from central, auto-exit, etc.

Considering that this thread is 7 year old, I hope they're not still complaining! :)
