Shading is wierd (can it be fixed?)

A bit new to shadow stumbling blocks.... but in the attached pic I've got holes in my shadows where there should not be... and whole sections of shadows missing. Can I do something to fix this or is it a Revit-ism? This is a file that has linked files if it makes any difference (7 of 10 links showing in the pic).

1. Try turning on or off Hardware accelleration / Direct 3D in RAC 2010 (or OpenGL if RAC 2009.) and see if this makes any difference. Could be a graphics card issue.

2. Try adjusting the Sun and Shadow settings under Advanced Model Graphics.
Adjust sun intensity, shadow strength, etc.

3. Under Project Settings, try changing the location and see if it makes any difference.

4. Last but not least, if trying to print, use Raster instead of Vector in the print setup.

Hmmm.. tried all of that... looks fine on screen but printed looks like the pic. when I zoom in on screen it does that wierd stuff. both with openGL on and off (2009 yet).... so I'm guessing a graphics card issue... i'll give it a go on another computer, but I don't think it will help trying it on a lesser graphic card.

Try chaning your print settings to Raster processing in lieu of vectory processing.

This happens to us all the time as well - I think it has something to do with Linked files, which for most of our work we require. Ive sent the files out-of-house to our consultant and they can replicate the problem on their different setup and printers. Doesnt work when printing to PDF or DWF either

What we do, since its unsolvable, is "export" image and import the image and use that....obviously not live, but has anyone got any ides on how to fix?

I had the same problem with a small project with 3 linked files. The individual images, 3 site plans and 3 camera views for 3 different times in winter, displayed correctly when viewed individually, but as soon as I placed them on a single sheet, some anomalies appeared. I removed the 3 camera views and the site plans displayed correctly on one sheet. Exported the camera views and added back on the sheet. Printed correctly as print and PDF.

Question for OP:

Do the linked files have shared locations?
i.e. are they all in the same City/Location/Longitude-Latitude?

Hmmm... Interesting idea... definately not and Probably not. Think it would help? I wouldn't think so being that it looks somewhat ok zoomed out.

Maybe having the links rotated and mirrored has more to do with it than anything... It seems those are the ones not shadowing correctly... So I don't think I can use shared coordinates in that case can I? I'm not fully up to speed on shared coordinates.

raster printing on low seems to be the only option. Revit just plain ignores the roof and internal walls when using other settings.

Edit: Scratch that raster low doesn't work on all views. I give up. Not worth the trouble for me at this time.
