wall/column schedule

hi, i am new to revit, and as i was fiddling with schedules and material takeoffs, i ran into a pbm. i have a brick wall with concrete columns, unfortunately i must be doing something wrong as when i schedule the brick volume it won't subtract the column that is inside of the wall.
anyone has any ideea of how i can get the real brick volume in the material takeoff? atfirst glance seems like revit doesnt know that the column is inside the wall. if a similar problem has been posted, i apologize, i use revit 2010

You can use Join Geometry to fix it but this will only work with Structural Column.
But it still gonna act weird

ill give it a shot later in the day, thanks for the reply. .. weird how? weird in regards to the volume or will that be correct?
