could the ramp ( attached) be done as one piece or one could only model the straight and curved parts separately?

Model seperately and make sure you set ref plane because you wont be able to snap to the other ramp.

Yes, it can be done as a single sketch. Just did one myself. However I would sketch out the boundary and centerlines of the ramp with drafting lines first, if you don't already have edges of other elements that the ramp will go up against. The sketch lines helped me get the start and end points of the straight run of the ramp and the centerpoint of the curved portion in the right place.
