I have a request for an exploded and dimensioned detail - no doubt the request based on previous 3D details submitted in response to field questions- and I am having some trouble.

I created a wall section, then a call out detail. Then, I took my 3D view and orientated it to the call out detail. Then, I selected one of the corners on the view cube to rotate the view into an isometric. Now, I would like to detail and notate the drawing. However, when I try to select faces to dimension, the string appears way off in space, no where near the actual geometry. I cannot figure out why, or how to resolve the matter. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks.

You have to set the work plane to something in the view first. Word to the wise: The "face" that is created when you section box the 3d view doesnt count. The dims will then "lie down" on the workplane.

You also cannot put regular text in this view, so youll have to do it on the sheet, or in a drafting view on top of it (might as well do it on the sheet).

Sure you can put text in the 3D view. You can put text into any non-perspective view. But you have to be very careful to not change the view's orientation, or then those text notes will appear to fly off into space and not relate to your 3D view at all.

It would be nice if we could "lock" a view's orientation, similar to how you can lock viewports in ACAD.

Id enjoy it more if text could sit on the workplane the way Dimensions do...
