Eric Wing's "Revit Architecture 2010 ,No Experience Necessary" book is excellent.
Question.
On page 293, while marking out the ridges on the roof, he refers you to the 'Annotation Tab' to pick up a 'Detail Line' button to draw a line , as soon as you do that the ridge markings disappear and the line you are about to draw can not be associated with the ridges lines already drawn while in the 'Manage Roofs' tab.
Am I missing something?
thanks in advance

I'm not really following how or why detail lines are being used with regards to roof ridges. Are you in the roof sketch mode or just viewing the roof plan view?

I have selected the roof and started Adding Split Lines to form the ridges of the flat roof on the Modify Roofs tab.
Then one of the instructions in the book was to use the Detail Line under the Annorate tab to create a diagonal line to set its centre as a drainage point.
As soon as the Detail Line on the Annotate tab was selected the ridges outline that I have drawn have disappeared and I could not relate the Detail line to the ridge plan.

Thanks Patricks
I have worked it out.
You can not use the Modify Roofs platform to draw model lines.
You have to create the model lines (or detail lines) under another tab and then go to the Modify Roofs tab to select the points of interest on the detail lines which will be visible and after selection of the point of drainage you can detele the these lines.

ah, you must be doing a low-slope roof with internal drainage. It can be tricky using those modify elements. I generally do a flat roof, and then place a tapered insulation family in various directions, and then join geometry which creates the necessary ridge and valley lines.
