View Full Version : Limited snapping to AEC objects

I am having a problem in one construct drawing, in which I am limited as to which points running OSNAPS will pick on AEC objects. Mostly, I am limited to picking the insert point of windows, doors, structural members, stairs; and the endpoint (and sometimes a midpoint) of walls. I can not pick endpoints such as wall corners, wall openings, door frames, stair treads, etc.
They work fine on standard line work and this problem is limited to this particular construct drawing (the other five I checked worked fine). Osnaps will also work fine in the view drawing containing this construct.
Any suggestions?
Doug
revised edit: this problem is with Osnaps in general, not just running Osnaps

Why doesn't everyone else have the problems I have with osnaps??
In 09 and I think it's the same in 10, if I isolate a layer the osnaps fail because layer 0 is off.
I have to turn layer 0 on and regen and then I am able to snap.
It is because the snaps are tied to the material layer setting not the object.
i.e. if I have the ByMaterial setting ticked and the material has the 3d object on layer 0 (much preferred) then turning layer 0 off causes the snaps to fail.
Is this what you are experiencing?

Thanks, but no that does not solve this particular problem.

Sorry Neje, that's not the problem either and I've never experienced the layer related issue.

Options > AEC Editor > Optimize for Speed area, uncheck the Object Snap toggle (only thing in that area).

Do you hardcode your layers into your styles? Do you use the bymaterial setting?
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "hardcoding", but typically everything we use right now is pretty much out-of-the-box.
Yes, we do use the "by material" settings within the Display Representations within AEC object styles

While not a true solution, I was able to get Osnaps to work properly by copying all objects into a new construct, then renaming it.
Sometimes you just do what you gotta do to get things done.

I have had the same issue. I am in 2010. I have unchecked the "Allow general object snap setting to act upon wall justification line". My whole office cannot snap to an AEC window, door or certain endpoints of an AEC wall. Any other suggestions?
Can you do me a favour, when this happens again do this.
Turn on Layer 0. Regen. See if you can now snap.
