View Full Version : can I get a plumbing fixture to place in a section view?

I'm creating a family that is going to let us create vent systems separate from sanitary. It's basically just 2 pipe connectors, one which will be assigned to a sanitary system and another to a vent system (which is another system of the 'sanitary' type, just with a different name, for use with our tags and filters).

The problem I've ran into is that if I make the category of the family a plumbing fixture, I can't place it in a section view (the most logical view to place it, since pipes generally go from being sanitary to being vents along a riser), but if I make it a pipe fitting or pipe accessory, I can't use it to create a new vent system. Is there a workaround for either of these problems? Either a way to place a plumbing fixture in section view or a way to create a pipe fitting that can be used to create systems?

attached is what I have used, a vertical connector.
It was created from a connector that was included with the first tutorial that Autodesk issued for plumbing.
we define our vent system at the termination point through the roof.
works for us.
attaching a 2009 and 2010 version.

Thanks for that, it's helpful to see how other people have done it. It still has the the downside of not being able to be placed in section though, and it (as well as my own), has the rather annoying and confusing inability to be rotated on its side. I can't figure out why, and the weird thing is I started one project to work on it and it could be rotated, but when I loaded it into another project and tried to rotate it gave me an error! It's not really important though, I think what I'm going to do is just rotate it in the family editor so it's always vertical then deal with the fact that I have to place it in a floorplan then move it into the right place in a section view. However, if anyone has any info on why a plumbing fixture can be rotated in one project and not another, my curiosity is still bugging me about it, so please share.
