How do I get a new glass material I have scanned in to showup in the materials area? If I try to use an existing one, there is no place to use an image file. Stumped.

The glass has a specific coin style pattern to it

You have to use a diff/ type of material other than glass to use an image. Pick one that lets you use images. Note you can add bump maps to the solid glass materials so if you are trying to do art glass use the solid glass and add a bump map.

And to make a bump map, I generally will convert an image to grayscale and then bump contrast way up to give a higher relief pattern. It may not be exact, but it's usually good enough for overall building or even overall room interior renderings.
