Hi all,
Just wondering if there were ways of making a family with a drag control for 1 direction only?
Thinking of a door which is always the same height, and depth, but has to fit into various random gaps between walls so would need a width drag control...
I've got it working as a line based family, but wondered if you can make it another way with a drag control after placement.
Cheers

"Drag controls as you call them are just instance instead of type parameters.
Get this pdf from the AutoDESK site "ArchitectureFamiliesImpENU" - There is a lot of useful information on how to build families in this publication.

I thought that too... But it seems to be more complex than that.

Instance parameters + properly set reference planes should do it. Post your family here if you still can't do it.

In RAC 2009, the reference planes just had to be there. In 2010, they have to be set to something other than "No Reference" in order for the grips to appear with an instance based dimension/parameter..

Awesome...
Well done Factory.

Just had the same problem of drag controls not showing in a parking family (just a single model line of variable length to fill in gaps in a parking layout). Originally drew the line lying on the X-axis origin reference plane of the family, and with one end attached to a weak reference plane with an instance dimension parameter controlling the line length.
Found that moving the line off that reference plane restored the drag controls

Old thread but just found that it is still true, a single line on the horizontal origin reference plane will not show the drag controls in Revit 2016, moving the line off the reference plane makes the grips available.
