Array in family

My first foray with an array in a family--decided to keep it simple and make a 2d carpet symbol (section view). So, I want to control the number of vertical lines (the "yarns") with an array. My challenge is... how do I add a label to an array? Checked help, checked tutorials, checked here--I see families with arrays, but no instructions on how to add the label. When I just type a label in the array number box, I get "Invalid Input".

With your array object selected, click on the array dimension object that appears (with the number and lines etc) then right click on that...you should see Edit Text and Edit Label as options.

Text is the count and Label is the description.

Also make sure the "group and associate" option is flagged when arraying, or you won't get the dimension Steve is talking about.
