I want to be able to link an object in modelspace to a field in paperspace. Can this be done?

I am creating a table, which I place in paperspace, and in this table are the measurements of an object in modelspace. I want to link the object to a field in the table so when the geometry changes....so does the field. (I love this feature) But, when I am in the table(in paperspace) and setting up the field, I need to select the object that is in modelspace.

Well, because I'm in the middle of a command in paperspace I can't change it to modelspace to select the object. Or can I?

I've tried to create the field in modelspace, then copy and paste it into my table, but that doesn't work.

Any suggestions? Or is this a good wishlist item?

Why arn't you leaving your table in model space?

For anyone else who has this problem, I received this reply from Jason Piercey on the Autodesk discussion groups website; it works great:

This seems to work (tested briefly)

I used a line and its length property as an example.

Drew the line in modelspace
created a field in modelspace associated to the line's length
edited the field and copycliped the field expression (at the bottom)
flip to paperspace and paste.

I was trying to do this, but with text. As in, using mtxt from a model space object, and having the paper space object contain the same text.

Copying from a field in model space and pasting it in paper space results in the mtxt saying ##############
