Hello all,
I am working on putting wall tags onto the floor plans so they can relate back to our wall type sheet. However I am looking to see if it is possible to put in a wall tag that is "dumb" where I can change the name of it without changing the name of all the other wall types that are the same. Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks

Make it an instance parameter instead of a Type parameter tag.
But why in earth would you want to do that? Thats the whole beauty of Revit, right there...

How do you create an instance parameter?

You probably dont need to make a parameter. You can just change the tag. Search the help file for tags and parameters. But i still think you should rethink the method youre looking for. It seems really purpose defeating to change it to instance, in my opinion.

Wow. Perfect example of a reason why as contractors we have to completely rebuild Revit models instead of working off of an architect's.

We're not doing it for all of the wall tags just a couple types where it kind of involves two wall types but we're keeping them as one wall in the model. And since in the model it's one type of wall we can't reall put two different wall tags. So instead of creating new wall types on the sheet we wanted to just tag one wall with two different tags on it. And I'm sorry I am new to revit but I still don't compelety understand how you say to create a new tag.

Wow. Perfect example of the attitude that makes us architects less willing to give the contrators our good models. :)

kkintz, I've recorded a short tutorial for you on how you can customize your wall tag to add information that is particular to a single instance in your model. You can watch it here:

Hope this gives you some insight on how flexible tags can be, once you understand them!

Thank you very much for your help, I'll look and see if this is what we want to do for the wall tags.

I cant see the video from here, so im not sure what exactly is shown in Nancys example. But be cognizant of the fact that you have to do one of a few things:
1. Make a SEPERATE wall tag, and only use it on that one or two walls.
2. Make the tag read an instance parameter, and that will change ALL of the wall tags.
3. Make it read an ADDITIONAL parameter, aside from the wall type... Which will still show the wall type it currently has.

twiceroadsfool, that's what the video shows, exactly. Thanks for the validation! [grin]

I figured as much. I tried to watch it but its blocked here at the office. So i just wanted to make sure the OP knew that if he edits the wall tag and reloads it... Its going to change them all, hehe.

nancy.mcclure and twiceroadsfool thank you again for your help, it worked perfectly, and we're very happy that they aren't just "dumb" tags. Believe me when the problem arose I didn't want to go that route either, and I am glad there was a solution that worked. Thanks again!
