I am a student in a class that's learning on Revit Architecture 2009.

We're currently working on inserting various elements - doors, windows, and etc. Several of us have noted that when we insert these elements, the temporary dimensions that show are defaulting to the center of the nearest wall - but often times it might be beneficial and a lot quicker if we could change the snap to go to the outside or the inside of the wall, rather than the center.

Right now, we're just placing them close and then moving them afterward, but I am thinking that there must be an easier way to do this. Is there a way to tab through your snaps as you insert, should we change our default settings somewhere, or is there a third option we haven't thought of as yet?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Go to "Settings" "Temporary Dimensions" and a dialog will allow you to change things.

That works very well - thanks!

Is there any way to change it 'on the fly' if you're inserting multiple objects of the same type? If not, this is still a lot quicker than what we were doing.

Hey Paul,

If you select the grip at the end of the temporary dimension, you can move it ( or tab ) to another snappable point on that element or another element.

Hey there,
And, while we are discussing temporary dimensions.....
you may want to enlarge the font size for temporary dimensions.
Here is the thread on how to do it:
