View Full Version : Ridgeline not at center

I'm trying to create a roof where the ridgeline is not at the center of the roof sketch. If I just move the ridgeline to the location in elevation that I want, then the eave overhangs are not correct, but if I then edit the sketch to adjust the overhangs, the ridge goes back to the original location. I've tried with defining lines as slope, and I've tried using slope arrows. The only way that seemed to work was roof by extrusion. Is this the only way to accomplish this? I guess it's not that big of a deal, the one roof will be the only one created that way.
See attached image for what I'm looking for..The highest roof is the one in question and the image shows the roof created by extrusion.
Also, on a side note, did they change the command name in 2010 for editing the plan of an extruded roof? I thought it used to be called edit plan profile or something, and now I only see vertical opening...

If the ridge is not at the center, then the overhangs shouldn't be at the same level, isn't it? Edit the roof footprint, select one line of the overhang, go to properties and set a different offset from roof base.

t1.shep, I've struggled with this in the past, too, and found that a very helpful thing to do was to cut a section, and quickly draft with detail lines the slope from my desired ridge point. I could then measure what I needed the offset from base to be (as andre noted) for the opposite boundary lines to achieve the ridge position where I wanted it, while still creating it as a simple roof by footprint.

Hope that helps

To Achieve the Result.
1. Your Eaves cannot be at the same Level. e.i. Different Overhang Size
2. If you insist on same OH...then your slope on Each Edge will Change.

Also Check that Both Edges are Set to Extend to Wall Core or Check that the OH is being read from the Actual Beam Location.....if you have randomly sketched it, then it will screw up.
Select the Beam and Offset the Line....don't sketch the line.

When I ran into this problem a few months ago, I simply drew the roof in two pieces with the divide line where I wanted the ridge to be. I then cut a section through so that I could make sure it lined up correctly and adjusted the settings and joined the two halves. It worked out perfectly.

As mentioned, you can do it with regular slope defining lines... But the eaves cannot be the same. Grab the LINE of the sketch, and go to its properties. I *think* (im not in revit right now, im home) there are properties there to set that line lower than the "base constraint" of the roof. (IE itll make that side drop down lower... Which will move the ridge closer to the other side...)
