In the Materials list, in the lower left corner select Duplicate--and make a new material,
and give it a name.
Then go to render apperance, replace, and select a new material/map for the new
texture.
does that help?
cheers...........

Hi Collins,
Thanx for your response.
My problem was to create new render appearance. I want to make new render appearance not new material. If I'm not clear please see the attachement.
Thanx

Since moving to the Mental Ray engine in Revit 2009, the ability to actually ADD rendering appearances to the library disappeared. Its been a wishlist item for the last 2 releases to have that ability again.
In the meantime, there are workarounds that will allow you to replace an existing appearance with one of your own. Find an appearance that you have no intention to use on this particular project AND is based on an image (i like to use some of those hideous floor tile patterns). Replace the image and the bump map for that material with a new image and bump map for YOUR material.
If you get stuck, search around on these forums for other custom materials tips or search google to find tutorials on making seamless textures and bump maps in photoshop.
Hope that helps!

Materials and Render Appearance is pretty much the same thing.
The only way to get a new "render appearance" is to modify and existing Material,
or create a new material.
