how to tag existing structure?

How are you all tagging existing structural elements? Currently, I'm just doing it "brute force" - I created a structural framing tag with an "(E)" prefix, and manually swap the tag in the views, but that doesn't seem very elegant, especially since the graphics automatically change - why not the tag? Also, it will start to get more complicated as we start breaking the construction up into phases...

We currently use the same method you do. In the past I have duplicated and renamed the type to include the (E). I'm not real sure how I feel about that though.
