Any one here can share there tips and tricks to customize project browser?...thanks

You need to add a project parameter for views. I call it ViewSort. You can then create your own custom browser organization that can be a copy of the default, but adds one more level which is ViewSort. Just to let you know that you will be left with a category called ??? in each view catagory for views which have not been assigned a ViewSort.

Ok - I followed the instructions for customizing the project browser but for my custom field it seems like I have to give it an imperial dimension - I had been assuming I could name it but when I try to insert letters I get "Enter a value or a formula starting with '=".

Welcome to the forums. Make sure when you create your parameter it is a TEXT parameter. Looks to me like you have created a LENGTH parameter.
Check out this thread for a good starting point. Keep in mind this was created using the old interface and some of the commands may be a little outdated but the concepts are the same.
